My worlds of work and travel recently collided as I pieced together two architectural masterpieces by Pritzker Prize winner, Norman Foster. For work I frequently enter the famed Hearst Tower located near Columbus Circle in New York City. Then, while visiting London I marveled at the architecture of the British Museum admittingly more interested in the design of the building than the contents of the museum.
Low and behold both structures were crafted by Norman Foster as noted in Treasures of New York's recently released video (watch below) about Hearst Tower. Both of the iconic landmarks show resemblances of Foster's ability to add modern design elements to existing structures that preserves the overall concept and integrity. In addition, I found that both structures have a surprising element of openness on the inside that isn't at all telling from the exterior.
